March is Women’s History Month! We celebrate the progress made in women’s rights and the ongoing efforts to advance civil rights across the state.
With this year’s theme as Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories, we recognize women’s instrumental role in passing down vibrant experiences, heritages, and cultures through art and storytelling on their own terms.
At the Minnesota Department of Human Rights, we’re committed to ending sex discrimination which means addressing sexism, sexual harassment and assault, and pay inequities.
That’s why the Minnesota Department of Human Rights supports the Preventing Pay Discrimination Act, which would help close the gender and racial pay gap by ending the pay history question.
In addition, our recent case with a McDonald’s franchisee addresses sexual harassment and assault through impactful, systemic changes and creating a safer environment where employees can thrive.
While we celebrate the groundwork made in women’s rights, we also recognize that sexism persists. This is especially true for Black, Indigenous, and women of color, women with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ women, girls and elder women, women of different national origins, and women of different religions.
Celebrate by checking out the Women’s History Month events happening in the area!
Coming Up: Mark your calendars for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May.
