SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Human Rights is deeply disappointed by the split decision issued today in the Telescope Media Group v. Lucero, et al. case by the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. The Minnesota Human Rights Act is one of the strongest anti-discrimination laws in the country. It strictly prohibits businesses serving the public from discriminating against individuals based on their core identity, including sexual orientation.
“Minnesota is not in the business of creating second-class community members in our state,” said Minnesota Department of Human Rights Commissioner Rebecca Lucero. “Time and again, Minnesotans have chosen love and inclusion in our communities in order to build a state where our laws lift up our beautiful and complex identities, not hold them down.”
The Minnesota Department of Human Rights is working with the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office to explore all legal options.
