Bill Hearing Alert: HF170 (Becker-Finn) on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at 3:00 PM

CDI in Classrooms

HF170 (Becker-Finn) will be heard by the Education Policy committee

This bill will modify language in educational interpreter law. Currently, the language requires that an educational interpreter complete an Interpreter Training Program (ITP). Nationwide, there is no ITP for Certified Deaf Interpreters (CDIs). The language in this bill would allow a CDI to work in schools without completing an ITP program and would allow school districts to be reimbursed for the salary of the CDI.

The following individuals are scheduled to testify in support of this bill;

  • Dov and Galvin Nathanson
  • Alicia Lane, Government Relations Director, Minnesota Commission of the Deaf, DeafBlind & Hard of Hearing
  • Trevor Turner, Director of Public Policy, Minnesota Council on Disability
  • There may be additional testifiers.

Please attend and show your support!
