Workshop description
Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing youth often face unique barriers to mental health support, crisis response, and post-crisis care, making it essential for the adults in their lives to recognize concerns and respond effectively. This session explores the continuum of suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention through a Deaf-centered lens, highlighting the role of communication access, cultural responsiveness, and meaningful connection. Participants will explore risk and protective factors, discuss the unique strengths and challenges within Deaf communities, how to respond when concerns arise, and how to support a community impacted by a suicide loss. This session provides actionable tools to help ensure life-saving support is accessible to every student.
