Workshop description

Learning centers, or stations, are a powerful instructional framework for promoting student engagement, independence, and differentiated learning across grade levels. This interactive session will explore how learning centers can be intentionally designed to meet the diverse needs of Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing students who use American Sign Language (ASL), spoken English, or a combination of communication modalities. Participants will learn how to apply Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to create accessible, standards-based learning experiences that support multiple means of engagement, representation, and expression. Presenters will share practical examples from elementary through high school classrooms across content areas, including literacy, mathematics, and other subjects. Attendees will examine strategies for reducing student dependence on adults, increasing self-directed learning, and designing center activities that align with students' strengths and learning needs. Participants will leave with tools and templates for planning, implementing, and adapting learning centers within their own educational settings.
