Naloxone Administration in School Settings

On July 1, 2023, a legislative change regarding naloxone administration in school settings will go into effect. Further information can be found on the Minnesota Department of Health Naloxone Administration in School Settings page. The School Tookit is a resource that includes the following information:

  • a link to the Minnesota School Board Association who offers sample policy language
  • information on developing an emergency response procedure and a template that can be modified for individual school use
  • information on naloxone medication including how to obtain naloxone medication using a standing order for distribution and a Condition Specific Protocol template required to administer the naloxone in the school setting by nurses.
  • Resources and links to many resources for staff training in naloxone and medication administration.
  • Education prevention resources for students, staff, and families including recovery resources.
