Requirements for Approval of a Nursing Program

The Board of Nursing must approve nurse education programs conducted in Minnesota that prepare persons to be licensed as advanced practice registered nurses, practical nurses, or professional nurses.

The statutory requirements for initial and continuing approval of a nursing program that prepares students for basic entry into advanced practice registered nursing, practical, or professional nursing programs are found in Minnesota Statutes Section 148.251.

In addition, Minnesota Rules Chapter 6301 specify the board's administrative procedure and Minnesota Rules Chapter 6301.2360 Subpart 5., details the requirements for obtaining initial program approval or continuing approval of a nursing program.
