The FBI's Office of Private Sector issued a report warning licensed health care professionals of a nationwide fraud scheme targeting them. The report summarizes several instances in which medical professionals were contacted by phone, email, or mail - by criminals claiming to be with a state's board of medicine, the U.S. Department of Justice and/or the Drug Enforcement Administration - and were advised that their license had been suspended or that they were under investigation for illegal opioid distribution. The criminals demanded immediate payment to avoid license suspension.
