The Scope of Nursing Practice Decision-Making Framework is intended to be used by nurses, facilities, boards of nursing and other stakeholders in determining whether specific activities, interventions, or roles are permitted under the nurse’s level of education, licensure, and competence while meeting the standards established by the nurse practice act and rules/regulations of each state or jurisdiction. Representatives from the American Nurses Association, National League for Nursing, Boards of Nursing, and National Council of State Boards of Nursing staff completed a methodical review of the literature and existing decision-making algorithms to develop the Framework. It was published in the October issue of the Journal of Nursing Regulation.
The Board of Nursing adopted the Framework at the October Board of Nursing meeting. The document may be accessed by following this link: https://www.ncsbn.org/decision-making-framework.htm.
