Stability Testing

The Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) seeks to ensure that cannabis and hemp products sold in Minnesota are safe to consume with limited risk to public health or safety.

The Cannabis Technical Authority (Section IX, Page 14) states that product stability must be demonstrated for each product and that the data should be evaluated based on the first batch of any new or altered cultivation or manufacturing process. The stability data demonstrated for the product may be applied to subsequent batches if a business continues to use the same cultivation or manufacturing process.

If a business has data from previous studies for products and would like to use those data to apply an expiration date for existing products, they can submit the data to the office for evaluation using the Stability Testing Results Submission Form. Stability data must demonstrate that the cannabinoid profile is within the allowed variance and microbial growth was not above the allowed limits as listed in the Cannabis Technical Authority.

Once submitted, OCM will review the information and respond to your request. Explicit approval from OCM is needed before expiration dates can be set based on the submitted data.
