Information

The North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE) is available to veterinary students within eight months of graduation, to unlicensed graduate veterinarians, and to graduates of foreign schools of veterinary medicine who are enrolled in and have completed the third step of the ECFVG or PAVE program.

Applicants for the NAVLE must apply for approval through a state veterinary board.  If applying for approval through the Minnesota Board, go to the NBVME website and complete the two applications – one application is for state Board approval and the other is for the examination itself.

The application deadline is AUGUST 1 for the November - December, NAVLE testing window and FEBRUARY 1 for the April testing window.

RETAKE POLICY:

The Minnesota Board adopted the NBVME’s policy that limits candidates to five attempts to pass the NAVLE in a five-year period from the date of the first attempt.  Each of the two final attempts must be at least one year from the previous attempt. Attempts made prior to fall 2007 do not count toward the five attempt/five year limit.

Deadlines

Applications due August 1 for Fall testing window

Applications due February 1 for April testing window

Note: Candidates who fail exam taken during the November/December testing window are automatically approved to retake the exam in April.

Fees

NAVLE fee: $690

Board approval fee: $55 (payable to NBVME)
