Ensure Approval of Continuing Education

There are two types of Continuing Education (CE) approvals accepted by the MBCE. A course approved by the MBCE will contain a 5-digit course number; and a course approved by PACE will contain the PACE logo. To assist licensees in locating approved courses, MBCE maintains an online CE Search tool. Licensees may also contact the CE Sponsor to obtain a MBCE course number or take PACE approved courses to ensure that courses taken qualify for credit.

It is the licensee’s responsibility to ensure courses comply with the Annual Requirements.

Tips for a Successful Audit

Review your continuing education requirements and certificates prior to renewal: Do not complete your license renewal until you are certain you have complied with Annual Requirements in Minn. R. 2500.1200, Minn. R. 2500.7040.

Prior to uploading your CE submission: Complete the CE Summary for Audit and review your continuing education attendance certificates. Be certain that you have the OFFICIAL certificates, and they contain the following information:

  • Chiropractor's Name, Address and MN License #.
  • Name of the CE Program & the MBCE Course ID # (or PACE logo as appropriate).
  • Date the program was attended.
  • Type and number of continuing education units obtained - if no type is indicated only general credit will be applied.

Watch your CE Audit Tile: The CE Audit Tile appears in your online account immediately after renewal and disappears when your audit is complete. It is an extremely helpful tool showing your audit status and a checklist with comments if any outstanding items are required. (See below under “CE Audit Tile & Timeline” for more information.) DO NOT ASSUME YOUR AUDIT IS COMPLETE until you receive the official “Audit Complete” letter from the Board.

Watch your email: Does the MBCE have your current email address? All notices regarding your CE audit will come by email and include “MBCE”, the audit year, and the type of correspondence in the subject line. Make sure the MBCE has your current email and watch for these notices.

During the year: Download and save a CE Summary for Audit to your device and complete it as soon as you receive your official attendance certificate. Maintain your continuing education certificates in an electronic folder with the CE Summary for Audit.

Always: Read instructions sent to your email from MBCE staff BEFORE renewing your license, BEFORE you upload documents, and BEFORE you contact the board.

CE Audit Tile & Timeline

The CE Audit Tile becomes available in your online account immediately following completion of your online renewal. This is the location where you upload your CE audit documents. At that same time, MBCE generates and emails an official "Notice of Audit" to the email address on record.  YOUR response including the CE Summary for Audit and official continuing education certificates is due within 21 days or no later than March 1, by online upload to the CE Audit Tile.

Beginning March 1, CE submissions are reviewed for compliance in the order in which they are received . With thousands of CE submissions to audit, licensees may not receive official notice about their audit for several months after submission.

In the meantime, licensees may monitor their audit progress at any time by logging into their online account and clicking on the CE Audit Tile. The CE Audit Tile will indicate one of the statuses below and correspond with notices sent by MBCE.

CE Audit Tile - Status Descriptions:
The status date in the CE Audit Tile and any emailed notices sent to licensees will be the same. You can use this date to search your email for official notifications from MBCE.

First Notice: A CE submission is required. It will either be the initial submission or, in the case of a deficiency, a follow-up submission (which will be explained in a notice from MBCE).

Data Received: CE submission has been successfully uploaded to MBCE. This status may remain in place for several months until such time as the documentation uploaded has been reviewed for compliance. Do not throw away your audit documentation, or assume your audit is complete until you receive an official notice from the MBCE.

90-Day Deficiency: CE submission was not compliant (this could be due to incorrect/incomplete documents, missing credits, unapproved credits, other). The 90-Day Deficiency letter is emailed to licensee. The CE Audit Tile checklist items are updated, and comments are added regarding what is required to repair the audit failure.

33-Day Termination Warning: This is the final warning before a license will be Board Terminated for deficiencies listed in the 90-Day notice. The 33-Day Deficiency letter is emailed to the licensee.

CE Audit Tile – Checklist & Comments:
From the CE Audit Tile, click “more” and the itemized checklist will open. These items are updated when items are required from the licensee. To open and read comments, click the conversation bubble "conversation bubble image" to the right of the checklist item.

Uploading CE Instructions

Please read all notices from MBCE and follow the CE Upload Instructions carefully. Follow the CE Summary for Audit Instructions to complete the CE Summary for Audit and save this with your CE certificates on your device.

Basis for Audit and Penalties

When a Doctor of Chiropractic renews their license for the following year; they legally attest on their renewal form that their continuing education (CE) has been completed. At that point in time, it is each licensee’s responsibility to ensure that their completed CE credits were approved by the MBCE and in the proper categories as required by Minn. R. 2500.1200.

The annual CE audit is part of the MBCE’s mission to protect the public, by ensuring licensees have taken appropriate continuing education each year to maintain competence at their practice. Should licensees be found deficient in their continuing education, they are then subject to incomplete renewal penalties in Minn. R. 2500.1110 and continuing education penalties in Minn. R. 2500.1800.

The Minnesota Board of Chiropractic Examiners (MBCE) audits every actively licensed Doctor of Chiropractic for continuing education completion, every year.
