Application Action Steps:
1. Submit Application and Fees
- Online: Apply and pay by credit card using the Board's Online Services.
- By Mail: Download the application and and submit with a check or postal money order and send to 335 Randolph Avenue, Suite 290 St. Paul, MN 55102
2. Submit required supporting documents
Note: Your application cannot be processed without the required supporting documents. Supporting documentation should be submitted as soon as possible after an application is submitted.
- Official Graduate Transcript:
- You must request that your graduate school submit an official transcript to the Board that verifies your degree, major, and degree conferral date.
- Contact the registrar's office at your school to request that an official transcript be sent directly from your school to the BBHT office:
- By Mail - 335 Randolph Avenue, Suite 290 St. Paul, MN 55102.
- By email (secure, certified PDF from your school) to bbht.board@state.mn.us
- Official letter(s) verifying 700-hours of field experience (if not verified on your academic transcript):
- If your practicum/internship hours are not verified on your academic transcript in clock hours, contact your program director and have that person send verification directly to the Board office.
- Official passing NCMHCE exam results:
- You must register for the NCMHCE Examination.
- Take the Exam.
- Request the passing exam report be submitted directly to the BBHT office.
- Exam results take anywhere from 30 to 60 days to arrive, plan accordingly.
- Official License Verification:
- Must be sent directly to BBHT from the issuing authority.
- Primary source online verification is acceptable; print license verification and include it with your application.
- Verification of completion of 4,000 hours supervised, post-masters professional practice:
- Completed supervision verification forms must be sent to BBHT directly by the supervisor.
3. Complete Criminal Background Check (CBC)
- After applying, the Minnesota Criminal Background Check (CBC) Program will send the applicant an email with instructions about completing the background check.
- The background check can take anywhere from 2 to 3 weeks to be processed.
Note: All applicants are required to complete a Criminal Background Check before licensure.

- If you completed 2,000 hours of supervised, post-masters professional practice for your LPC license and you are practicing independently, you only need to document an additional 2,000 hours of supervised, post-masters professional practice for your LPCC conversion application.
- Completed supervision verification forms must be sent directly to BBHT by the supervisor.

Supervised Professional Practice
According to Minnesota Statutes 148B.5301 subdivision 2 and 4, applicants for the LPCC license are required to verify completion of 4,000 hours of supervised, post-masters professional practice prior to licensure. A brief description of the action steps is listed below.
