Apply to become a Board Approved Supervisor


Applicants for LPC and LPCC licensure must complete post-degree supervised professional practice under the supervision of a Board Approved Supervisor. BBHT has 3 different supervisor designations. A brief description of the supervisor requirements from Minnesota Statutes 148B.5301, subdivision 2, Minnesota Statutes 148F.04, subdivision 3 and Minnesota Rules 2150.5010, subp 3 are listed below.  
 

Licensed Professional Counselor - Supervisor Requirements 

  • Be a licensed professional counselor or other qualified professional as determined by the Board; 
  • Have four years of professional counseling experience; 
  • Have completed a minimum of 45 hours of training in clinical supervision.
    • Training can include continuing education courses, workshops, or university courses. 
Note: LPC Supervisors are able to supervise individuals pursuing LPC licensure or LPCC licensure (conversion method only).
 
If you meet the requirements listed above, apply using the LPC/LPCC Supervisor Application and send it to the Board office accompanied by the $30 application fee. 
 

Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor - Supervisor Requirements

  • Be a licensed professional clinical counselor or other qualified professional as determined by the Board
  • Have four years of professional counseling experience; 
  • Have two years of post-licensure experience; 
  • Have completed a minimum of 45 hours of training in clinical supervision.
    • Training can include continuing education courses, workshops, and university courses. 
Note: LPCC supervisors can supervise LPC applicants and LPCC applicants applying through all methods. 
 
If you meet the requirements listed above, apply using the LPC/LPCC Supervisor Application and send it to the Board office accompanied by the $30 application fee. 
 

Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor - Supervisor Requirements

  • Be a licensed alcohol and drug counselor or other qualified professional as determined by the Board; 
  • Have three years of experience in providing alcohol and drug counseling services; 
  • Have completed a minimum of 12 hours of training in clinical and/or ethical supervision. 
    • Training can include continuing education courses, workshops, or college courses.
