Interactive Forest Resources Data Viewer

The MFRC Regional Forest Resources Data Viewer is an interactive dashboard that tracks forest resources trends across Minnesota's forested landscapes at statewide and regional scales. MFRC interviewed professionals including agency foresters, industrial foresters, Tribal resource staff, wildlife biologists, and tourism stakeholders, to select and display readily available forest-related data in this dashboard to:

• Investigate and compare forest types, age classes, and other forest features
• View information on timber, habitat, tourism, water, carbon, and other resources
• Explore and compare forest conditions and trends across ownerships and six forest regions
• Support MFRC regional landscape committees, agencies, Tribes, and the public in long-term forest planning and coordination

Important Data and Geographic Context

Information in the Forest Resources Data Viewer is derived from data available at a statewide scale that can be filtered at the regional landscape level. It does not currently include regional spatial context that would further inform site-level social, economic, and ecological forest management considerations. The Data Viewer is limited to FIA data from 2003 onward due to changes in reporting methods. Because forests grow and change slowly, a longer consistent record of data would support additional trend analysis.
