John Rajala

Forestry is just as much passion as profession for John Rajala who was born into a lumber family that has become increasingly focused on ecological sustainability throughout the generations.
Rajala’s career in forestry has been marked by learning, adapting, and sharing knowledge. At the end of the day, caring for a relatively small but ecologically significant acreage of close-to-nature forests may be the highlight.
As the MFRC’s representative of private forest landowners, Rajala is excited to connect with these stakeholders as chair of the Family Forest Landowners Committee. He also remains deeply connected with forest stakeholders through his personal and professional pursuits, including leading Rajala Companies—a vertically integrated forest products company in northern Minnesota.
Rajala believes Minnesota is and will continue to be a national and global leader in balancing sustainability and utilization of natural resources. In addition to the MFRC’s important role in the stewardship of this approach, Rajala looks forward to the Council’s contribution to helping provide permanent ecological protection of Minnesota’s forest resources. He also anticipates opportunities for the MFRC to support the enhancement of forest carbon sequestration and storage benefits.
