Family Forest Landowners Committee
Charter
The Family Forest Landowners Committee will advise and assist the Minnesota Forest Resources Council (MFRC) in addressing matters related to the privately-owned lands of Minnesota, consistent with the MFRC’s statutory mandate to advise the Governor and federal, state, county, and local governments on sustainable forest resources policies and practices (Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 89A.03, Subd 2).
These activities will include, but are not limited to:
• Evaluate the potential effects that changes in forest policies have on family forest landowners and their forest land and suggest policy and policy option recommendations for family forestlands.
• Interface with forestry-related organizations to gain understanding of topics, issues, and concerns related to family forest landowners and convey solutions and/or ideas to the MFRC.
• Raise awareness of the role family forest landowners play in maintaining Minnesota’s natural environment and promote methods that help more family forest landowners increase their engagement and stewardship of the land.
• Work with partners to engage family forest landowners in making meaningful conservation impacts in areas such as carbon sequestration, clean water, wildlife habitat, and sustainable wood supplies.
• Support program coordination, understanding, and cooperation among agencies, family forest landowners, forest industry, and other organizations who have common interests and efforts in sustainable forest management.
