The Board approves CE Providers, not specific CE activities. Pre-approval is not required for CE to meet requirements for license renewal, but CE activities completed through a Board-approved CE Provider are automatically accepted. CE activities must meet requirements for acceptable content under Minnesota Statutes section 148E.130.
The Board approves CE Providers rather than approving individual CE activities. To be approved as a CE Provider, submit the CE Provider Application and fee at least 30 days prior to the program date. CE Provider approval is valid for one year from the date the application is received and approved. CE Providers may be audited by the Board. CE Provider approval may be revoked by the Board if programs fail to comply with Board requirements.
It is most efficient to calculate the total number of CE hours for the trainings you have planned for one year from the date you submit your CE Provider application, since the approval is valid for one year from the date of submission. Calculate the number of CE hours applied based on the number of CE hours that you will present in the one-year period. For example, if you plan to present the same four-hour training four times during the year, apply for 16 CE hours.
You must submit a new CE Provider application and fee for the additional hours. Submitting a new CE Provider application for additional hours begins a new one-year approval window for the number of hours on the new application.
Any programs offered after the one-year expiration date of approval are not pre-approved and cannot be advertised as pre-approved. Pre-approval cannot be applied retroactively to any CE trainings. You must submit a new CEP application to retain your CEP approval status.
Approved CE Providers must provide documentation of completion that includes the following information:
Program title
Description of program content and objectives
Program date
Program number of clock hours
Whether the program was presented as a live interactive activity or continuing education independent learning
Names and qualifications of program presenters
List of program attendees
In addition, for three years following the end of each activity, approved CE Providers must maintain documentation of the information above and submit to the Board if audited.
CE Provider approval must be issued in advance the date of a CE activity, and may not be advertised until written approval is received from the Board. You may communicate that you are a Board approved CE Provider and list the CE Provider number issued by the Board once you receive your approval. Pre-approved CE Providers are listed and can be searched for using the Board's Pre-Approved Continuing Education Providers online service.
