License Renewal
- Your social work license must be renewed every two years
- Your license renewal/expiration date is the last day of your birth month in either even or odd years depending on when your license was issued
- Your first renewal date is the last day of your birth month two years from the date your license was issued
- Login to your license profile to check your license renewal/expiration date
- When you renew your license you will:
- Attest to meeting continuing education (CE) requirements for the past two years/renewal term
- Document supervised practice received during the past two years/renewal term, if applicable
- Answer Standards of Practice questions
License Renewal Deadlines & Fees
Plan ahead to avoid a late fee or possible unlicensed practice!
- Your license renewal application and fee must be received by the BOSW on or before your license expiration date to avoid a late fee
- You are eligible to renew your license beginning 45 days before your license expiration date
- An electronic License Renewal Notice will be sent to you via email when you are eligible to renew your license
- Login to your online license profile to review/update your email address, phone number, and current mailing address
- A limited number of License Renewal Notices are sent out via USPS under special circumstances.

- Failure to receive the license renewal notice does not release you from your obligation to renew a license
Late renewal and license expiration:
- You may renew your license within 60 calendar days of your license expiration date with a late fee
- If a license is not renewed within 60 days of your license expiration date, the license will automatically expire retroactive to your expiration date and you may be subject to an additional fee or disciplinary action if you practice social work with an expired license
- If you do not renew your license within 60 days of your license expiration date, you may reactivate your license within one year of your license expiration date
- If you do not reactivate your license within one year of your license expiration date, you will be required to reapply and meet all current requirements for licensure, including a valid ASWB exam score within eight years of the application date

License Renewal Process
- Submit renewal application and fee:
- Renew online: Complete renewal application and submit fee using Online Services
- Renew by mail: Download the Application for License Renewal & Status Change form and submit via mail with a check or money order
- Verify supervised practice, if applicable:
- Submit Supervision Verification form(s) to document supervision received during the last renewal term
- Review complete Supervised Practice requirements
- Retain continuing education (CE) records:
- Keep CE records for one year following your license renewal date in case you are audited by the Board
- You are not required to submit CE documentation with your license renewal application
- If you have not completed all required CE hours at the time of license renewal, you may obtain a CE extension by selecting the option when you complete your license renewal application
- Review complete Continuing Education requirements
- Automatic approval:
- Renewal applications are automatically approved upon receipt of a complete renewal application and fee
- Use the Public License Lookup to verify or print your license following renewal
- The Board may contact you by mail to request additional information; failure to respond to renewal follow-up requests may result in disciplinary action
