Find a Licensee

What Is This Service?

"Find a Licensee" helps you confirm if a person holds a license or certificate in Minnesota.

It will also tell you if someone has a revoked, retired or expired license or certificate—all of which mean that the person cannot practice currently in Minnesota.

Licensees/ certificate holders can also use this search tool to look up their license number and when it expires. (Firm registrations are not listed. For firm information, contact the Board at aelslagid@state.mn.us.)

Please note that the database is refreshed daily; it is not real time. Those newly licensed or others with recent changes to their license status will want to wait 1-2 business days from the anticipated date of a status change before checking the information in this database.

The Board no longer mails license cards at the time of renewal. Anyone wishing to confirm your license status can be directed to this Licensee Lookup.

If the Search does not display, try a browser other than Chrome.

License Statuses Explained

  • "Expired": The individual once held a valid Minnesota license/certificate but no longer does because he or she did not renew the license.
  • "Suspended": The individual does not hold a valid Minnesota license/certificate while it is "suspended." Suspensions are due to disciplinary action.
  • "Revoked": The individual no longer holds a Minnesota license/certificate due to disciplinary action.
  • "Retired": A licensee or certificate holder who has retired from practice. They can refer to themselves by their professional title as long as the word "Retired" precedes it (for example, "Retired Architect," "Retired Professional Engineer" or "Retired Certified Interior Designer").
