Reentry Workforce Development Intern

Location

MINNCOR Industries Offices – All Minnesota Correctional Facilities

This position works with all MN Correctional Facilities and will visit multiple sites.

The purpose of Reentry Workforce Development is to transform lives by equipping and identifying tools to locate, gain, and retain employment, reduce recidivism while encouraging desistance, and further develop workforce and life skills by providing feedback, utilizing evidence-based practices, strengthening the talent pipeline, broadening the reentry work community, and fair chance employers.

Internship Description

As an EMPLOY Program Intern, you will have a chance to support a program that helps individuals prepare for successful employment and reentry. This internship offers the opportunity to build valuable interpersonal and professional skills while contributing to meaningful work within the Department of Corrections. You will gain hands-on experience working directly with incarcerated individuals, presenting innovative workplace reentry strategies, and engage in project coordination. Your contributions to the agency's Vision, Mission, Values, Goals, and strategic initiatives will be impactful as you build on your work within reentry.

Supervision

Interns will be supervised by Workforce Development Specialist II.

Requirements

Interns should be upper-level undergraduate students (generally seniors) or upper-level undergraduate students in corrections, social work, community psychology or a related field at an accredited college or university which offers course credit for internships. All interns must clear a security check.

Preferred Qualifications

An interest in workforce development, corrections, employment services, or public service. Familiarity with the criminal justice system, corrections, database systems, or employment and reentry services is helpful but not required.

Length of Internship

Negotiable and flexible schedule, minimum 400 hours required.

What You'll Gain

  • Assist with project coordination, scheduling trainings for upcoming releasees, and training facilitation for presenting to incarcerated populations to ensure efficient program operations.
  • Demonstration of how to prepare, compile, and distribute participant materials, including processing incoming, outgoing mail, and how to provide quality assurance for assignments.
  • An overview of all agency policies, state statutes, and Department of Corrections procedures while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
  • The ability to provide direct assistance to incarcerated individuals transitioning back into the community through retention support and engagement services pre, and post release.
  • Support the Workforce Development Director and Office & Administrative Support Staff with a variety of office functions and special projects.
  • Contribute to the agency's Vision, Mission, Values, Goals, and strategic initiatives.

  • October 15 for Winter/Spring session
