COMPLAINTS ABOUT OFFICER MISCONDUCT  

The POST Board does not have authority to address all complaints about peace officers, and is limited to addressing officer behavior that violates the Standards of Conduct for peace officers outlined in Minnesota Rules 6700.1600.

If you believe an officer has violated the Standards of Conduct, you may file a POST Board Complaint Form.  The form is available in two versions: A PDF Fillable Version and a PDF Handwritten Version.  ​

​After you have filed a complaint with us, our staff will​ review the complaint, then bring it before our Complaint Investigation Committee to determine if it falls within t​he POST Board’s jurisdiction. You will be notified once that determination has been made, typically that takes between 30-60 days. If it is deemed your complaint doesn’t fall within our jurisdiction, no further action will be taken and you will be notified. If your complaint is not in POST Board jurisdiction, we encourage you to contact the officer’s agency and file a complaint with them if you have not already done so.​

If your complaint falls within the POST Board’s jurisdiction, additional ​information will be gathered. The Board may order an investigation conducted by an outside agency. Discipline, as outlined in Minnesota Rule 6700.1710 may be imposed by the Board on the peace officer.
