License Restoration
General Information
Restoration of a peace officer license is necessary if an officer was once licensed and employed as a peace officer in the State of Minnesota and that license has lapsed and expired.
License restorations fall into two categories: under 3 years or over 3 years.
Under Three Years
If LESS than three years have passed since the license expired, the application may be submitted online or by mail.
- Complete and document 48 hours of continuing education.
a) Any POST approved courses will be submitted to POST by the sponsor.
b) Any non-POST approved courses can be submitted to POST via the online portal using the “CE Entry” option from the dropdown.
- Pay the non-refundable, expired license restoration fee of $125.00.
Please contact the POST Boards Continuing Education Credit Coordinator with any questions:

Over Three Years
If MORE than three years have passed since the license expired, a License Restoration Exam is required.
- Complete the License Restoration Exam Application found on the forms tab and submit it to POST via mail along with the $230 fee.
a) Once the application is received and processed by POST, applicants who are approved to take the exam will receive information for registering and scheduling an exam date at a testing site.
i. A registration fee of $70.00 is paid by the applicant directly to Talogy. This is a separate fee and is not included in the $230 Restoration fee that is paid to the Minnesota POST Board.
b) After completing the exam, Talogy will notify applicants of their unofficial exam result, either a pass or fail. Applicants will then receive official confirmation of the exam result from the POST Board in a letter that can be used as proof of license restoration.
Please contact the POST Board’s Licensing and Testing Coordinator with any questions
