Mandatory Learning Objectives

Peace officers and part-time peace officers must successfully complete 48 hours of law enforcement related continuing education every three years. Officers must maintain documentation to prove successful completion of their required credits.

Within the 48 hours required for license renewal, active licensed officers are statutorily required to successfully complete a minimum of 16 MN POST approved mandatory learning objective credits in the following categories to renew their license:

* 3 credits are elective and can be taken in, or part of, these five categories.

Officers assigned to work as a School Resource Officer are required to successfully complete the following training that has been approved by the MN POST Board:

* A SRO who has not previously completed a basic course must complete a course approved under these MLOs by September 1, 2025

* If a SRO has previously taken a basic course, they must complete a refresher approved under these MLOs by June 30, 2027

Active licensed officers are statutorily required to successfully complete the following training that has been MN POST Board approved:
