Possible Amendments to Rules Governing Peace Officer Standards and Training, Minnesota Rules, chapter 6700; Revisor Number R4750
The POST Board plans to amend its rules regarding professional peace officer education (or preservice training), school certification, licensing examinations, examination standards, reciprocity, and the investigation/resolution of misconduct allegations. The rule parts that the board would like to amend are as follows: 6700.0100, 6700.0300, 6700.0400, 6700.0401, 6700.0500, 6700.0501, 6700.0600, 6700.0601, 6700.0800, 6700.2100, 6700.2200, 6700.2300, 6700.2400, and 6700.2500.
The POST Board posted a Request for Comments (RFC) in the State Register on December 4, 2023 (volume 48, number 23, page 530). When the initial RFC was published, a preliminary draft of the proposed rules was not available. At this stage, a preliminary draft of the proposed rules is available and the POST Board would like the public's feedback. The second RFC will be published in the State Register on February 23, 2026. This is when the public may begin to submit their comments on the proposed rules.
The proposed rules will likely affect:
- licensed peace officers,
- chief law enforcement officers,
- law enforcement agencies,
- professional peace officer education coordinators,
- professional peace officer education instructors,
- colleges or universities offering or intending to offer peace officer preservice training,
- licensure and examination applicants,
- current and prospective peace officer preservice education students, and
- members of the public.
Public Comment
Comments regarding the preliminary proposed rules draft must be submitted to the agency contact person in writing by 4:30 p.m. on April 24, 2026. The POST Board will not publish a notice of intent to adopt the rules until more than 60 days have passed from the publication of the second RFC.
