Data Practices Act

Scale, gavel, books, documents and a plant.The public information session for the Data Practices Act was hosted by the Minnesota Geospatial Advisory Council, Minnesota County GIS Association, and the Minnesota Geospatial Information Office on February 9, 2026. 

This session explored Jan 1, 2026 changes to the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act (DPA) and their impacts on GIS data management and sharing. With these changes, judicial officials gained the ability to request restricted access to real property records containing their (or their family’s) name and address. During the session legal, judicial, and GIS experts: 

  • Reviewed relevant state statutes
  • Clarified what changed under the DPA 
  • Shared plans for accommodating incoming requests in their GIS workflows.
