Matt Williams brings over a decade of experience in Minnesota’s public sector to MAD, with a career spanning education, leadership, and organizational development. He began his public service in 2012 as an English faculty member at Inver Hills Community College, part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. In this role, Matt designed and taught a wide range of courses, with a special focus on research concepts and methodologies. Before joining MAD in 2024, Matt served as the elected full-time president and CEO of Minnesota's two-year college faculty labor union (2019–2022). This statewide executive leadership role cemented his deep interest in strategic management and organizational effectiveness, which ultimately led him to the field of management consulting.
Consulting focus
Matt’s work centers on organizational development and facilitation; he partners with clients and teams to create shared visions and aligning people, processes, and systems to achieve those goals. His academic and research expertise equips him to ensure that projects are grounded in robust and valid data – both leveraging existing data and designing plans for effective collection and analysis. Matt approaches consulting with the mindset of an educator, learning and collaborating alongside clients to tackle meaningful challenges together.
Educational background
Matt holds a Master of Public Affairs with an emphasis in leadership and management, along with a post-baccalaureate certificate in nonprofit management from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. He also earned a PhD in writing studies, with a focus on literacy education, from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. Matt also recently completed the equity and diversity certificate from the University of Minnesota’s Office for Equity and Diversity.
