The Council on Asian Pacific Minnesotans and local and state nonprofit organizations co-hosted the 2023 Asian and Pacific Islander Day at the Capitol on Tuesday, April 11, 2023. All Minnesotans were invited to attend.
API Day is an annual Council event designed to bring together Minnesotans of Asian and Pacific Islander (API) descent to rally together, increase their knowledge of the state policymaking process, and directly connect with legislators about the issues that matter most to them. No previous political or legislative experience was needed to attend the event.
As the nation reflects on the chaos and disruption the COVID-19 pandemic brought to homes, schools, and businesses three years ago, this year’s API Day at the Capitol centered on the theme of Moving Forward. For three years, state agencies and the state Legislature scrambled to close the gaps created by social distancing, business closures, and illnesses. This year, the Council and its partners celebrated the ability to move out of survival mode and engage in the state policymaking and policy-influencing processes with intention and enthusiasm.
The 2023 API Day at the Capitol took place in the Capitol rotunda on Tuesday, April 11, 2023. Speakers included individuals working in childhood education, the Minnesota legislature, API-serving community-based organizations, and others. No registration is required. Seating is first come, first served. The event was livestreamed on the Council’s Facebook page.
