Pia Puentespina

Term: June 2023 to January 2027
Pia Puentespina was born and raised in Davao City, Philippines. Before moving to the United States in 2019 to attend Macalester College in St. Paul, Pia attended the United World College in Changshu, China. She received her B.A. in Political Science and International Studies with magna cum laude honors from Macalester in 2022. 
 
Pia is joins the Council's Board after serving as executive aide to the General Counsel in the Office of Governor Tim Walz & Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan. In 2023, she will begin her first year at the University of Minnesota Law School. Pia enjoys pilates, hiking with her dog, and going to farmer's markets.
 
About the Filipino Minnesotan community
There are more than 22,000 Filipinos in Minnesota, making it the sixth largest API community in the state. Filipinos have been arriving to the state since the 1930s, though in very small numbers that have increased over time. Only 9% of Filipino households in Minnesota are not English proficient.
