The City of St. Joseph is approximately 70 miles northwest of Minneapolis/St. Paul. The city is home to the College of Saint Benedict and is 5 miles from Saint John’s University. The St. Joseph Police Department is comprised of 12 sworn officers (chief, deputy chief, two sergeants, 8 patrol officers) and 2 office staff. We are a 24/7 department with no on-call time. Officers work 10-hour shifts with two 5-day rotations, one 6-day rotation, and 4 days off between each rotation. This schedule gives officers two weekends off per month. Officers belong to Law Enforcement Labor Services (LELS) labor union.
Benefits:
The City pays 80% of dental, 100% of the premium for long term disability insurance, and provides the employee with a $25,000 life insurance policy. The City contributes to a Health Saving Account and contributes monthly to health insurance premiums. Employees receive 13 paid holidays and a personal day each year. Employees receive a $725 uniform allowance per year and are eligible for a deferred comp plan.
Minimum Qualifications: Associates/Technical degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, or related field, or other credentials acknowledged by the MN POST that allows for full-time licensure.
