Forensic Nursing Home
Minnesota’s only state-operated nursing home, the Forensic Nursing Home provides nursing home level of care in a secure care environment.
The facility serves individuals who are civilly committed as mentally ill and dangerous, as a sexually dangerous person, a sexual psychopathic personality. It also cares for prison inmates on medical release from the the Minnesota Department of Corrections.
Care is the same as provided at other nursing homes: daily living care, rehabilitation services, and end-of-life care.

The Forensic Nursing Home is licensed by the Minnesota Department of Health.
Visiting
For detailed information about visiting a patient, view our Visitors Guide. Here are some highlights:
- Visiting hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week, including holidays.
- All visits must be scheduled in advance.
- To schedule a visit, call 507-985-2000 and ask to be transferred to the patient's living unit.
- Visits will be scheduled for one hour.
- Visitors and patients are encouraged to schedule visits outside of a patient's scheduled therapy sessions in order to minimize treatment disruptions.
