To be a peace officer in the State of Minnesota, an individual must:

  1. Complete a two or four-year degree
  2. Complete the POST certified Professional Peace Officer Program (PPOE)
  3. Have no disqualifying criminal convictions
  4. Be physically, medically, and psychologically fit for a career as a peace officer
  5. Pass the POST licensing exam
