Job Description: The City of Slayton is currently accepting applications for a full time Police Officer. Lateral applicants are encouraged to apply and pay will be negotiated based on experience. Applicants must be POST Licensed or eligible to be licensed in 2026. Applicants must possess a valid driver's license, pass a full background check, psychological exam, and be available for an oral interview if selected as a candidate.
Patrol officers work 12 hour shifts, 7 on, 7 off. There are 12 paid holidays, along with an additional 10-hour floating holiday. We have opportunities for instructor certifications, D.A.R.E officers and additional training.
Slayton is at the center of Murray County and has numerous recreational options. It's only a 10-minute drive to Lake Shetek and Lake Sarah, with fantastic fishing and boating opportunities. There are also over 20000 acres of high-quality public hunting land available in Murray County. Slayton has several great shopping options here and it's only 30 miles to Marshall, Worthington or Pipestone. The MCC school district routinely ranks in the top 3 schools in the region in test scores.
