• Provide leadership, direction, and supervision to all police department staff, fostering a culture of professionalism, integrity, and community service.
• Develop and implement department policies, procedures, and strategic plans in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and best practices.
• Oversee the enforcement of laws and ordinances, criminal investigations, traffic safety, and emergency response activities within the City of Westbrook.
• Prepare and manage the department’s budget.
• Serve as the primary spokesperson for the police department, maintaining open communication with the public and city officials.
• Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies, community organizations, and stakeholders to address public safety concerns and promote crime prevention initiatives.
• Recruit, hire, train, evaluate, and, when necessary, discipline department personnel.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
• Respond to major incidents and emergencies, providing leadership and coordination as needed.
Qualifications
• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, public administration, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
• At least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
• Current Minnesota POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) Board licensure, or eligibility for licensure.
