The Gilbert Police Department provides police services for the cities of Gilbert and Biwabik which includes the Giant's Ridge Recreation Area. The Gilbert Police Department consists of 7 full-time officers and one administrative assistant.
The Gilbert Police Department is very unique as it is home to Minnesota's First Off-Highway Vehicle Park. This creates opportunities to patrol on ATV and On/Off Roadway Motorcycle. Officers are also allowed to alpine ski on duty during events at the Giant's Ridge Ski Resort. The two cities have approximately 22 square miles of patrol area.
After 25 years of service, the City of Gilbert provides retiree officers with the same hospital and medical coverage as active city employees. This benefit continues as long as the retiree is alive.
Officers work a rotating 4 on 4 off 12 hour schedule. (2 sets of 6A-6P, 2-3P-3A, 2-6p-6A)
