Job Description: The City of Lewiston is seeking dedicated and community-minded candidates for the position of Peace Officer. This role is essential to ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of our residents through the prevention of crime and the protection of life and property. Responsibilities include patrolling assigned areas, responding to calls for service, and conducting preliminary and follow-up criminal and traffic investigations. Peace Officers interview witnesses, prepare clear written reports, testify in court, and take appropriate enforcement action, including the arrest and processing of offenders. Officers must be able to exercise sound judgment in determining when and how to use force, operate emergency vehicles under varying conditions, and comprehend legal documents such as warrants, citations, affidavits, and related materials. An important part of this role involves building strong community relationships. Officers are expected to thoroughly investigate citizen complaints, provide guidance on applicable laws or ordinances. When requested under mutual aid agreements, Peace Officers may also respond to incidents outside city limits. Lewiston, Minnesota is a small, close-knit community in Winona County in southeastern Minnesota. It is located approximately 15 miles west of Winona, 40 miles east of Rochester. Must be licensed as a peace officer in the State of MN by time of hire. Lateral candidates with current or past law enforcement officer experience may start at an advanced wage step based on years of experience, education, certifications, etc.
