Job Description: The Moorhead Police Department is hiring qualified individuals to serve & protect in a dynamic, community-focused environment. Officers perform patrol duties, respond to incidents, investigate crimes/accidents, collect evidence, make arrests & testify in court. Additional responsibilities include report writing, public education & potential assignment to specialized roles such as SWAT, K-9, Field Training Officer or instructor positions. Off-site training may be required.
Applicants must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the Minnesota POST Board by the date of conditional offer or by 12/31/2026. A degree in criminal justice or successful completion of the POST Reciprocity Exam is required. CPR/First Responder certification & a valid driver’s license are also required.
New hires with less than one year of experience may qualify for a $3,500 hiring incentive.
Officers receive accelerated pay increases every 6 months, totaling approximately $17,000 over 2 years. The schedule promotes work-life balance with rotating shifts & every other weekend off. Benefits include 100% paid health insurance premiums for various coverage levels, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement plans & wellness programs. Officers receive 80 hours of vacation annually, 12 sick days & 11 floating holidays. Physical fitness incentives and an on-site gym are provided.
