Job Description: The Moorhead Police Department is seeking experienced officers to join a progressive, community-focused team. Lateral hires may qualify for a $5,000 hiring incentive & benefit from an accelerated field training program. Officers perform patrol duties, respond to incidents, investigate crimes/accidents, collect evidence, make arrests & testify in court. Additional responsibilities include report writing, public education, & potential assignment to specialized roles such as SWAT, K-9, SRO, Investigations or instructor positions. Off-site training may be required.
Applicants must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the MN POST Board by the date of conditional offer or by 12/31/2025. A degree in criminal justice or successful completion of the POST Reciprocity Exam is required. CPR/First Responder certification & a valid driver’s license are also required.
Lateral officers receive a 6% COLA increase in January 2027, plus annual anniversary-based raises. The schedule features 12-hour shifts with a rotating pattern that includes every other weekend off, supporting work-life balance. Benefits include 100% paid health insurance premiums for various coverage levels, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement plans & wellness programs. Officers receive 80 hours of vacation annually, 12 sick days & 11 floating holidays. Physical fitness incentives & an on-site gym are provided.
