FWD: Department of Commerce Seeking Feedback on New Mental Health Law

Minnesota State FlagNAMI Legislation was passed last session that would require private health plans to cover the first four outpatient mental health visits to enrollees without charging a co-payment or deductible. This means that people with mental illnesses would have better coverage because it will be treated like primary care. To better understand the impact of this new law, the Department of Commerce is seeking public feedback. NAMI members and supporters are encouraged to participate in this study and share how removing deductibles from the first four outpatient mental health visits will improve their lives. We know that many people avoid necessary mental health treatment due to cost. NAMI Minnesota hopes that removing out-of-pocket costs for the first four visits will eliminate financial barriers to accessing treatment and will encourage people to seek mental health treatment before they require a higher level of care.
