Civil Commitment Training
The Civil Commitment Training and Resource Center (CCTRC) is part of the Office of Ombudsman for Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities (OMHDD). The CCTRC has been developed to assist persons who want training and information regarding the Civil Commitment and Treatment Act.
The CCTRC can provide individualized training, information, referral and advocacy. The CCTRC can also provide specialized training or presentations on individualized topics in civil commitment and effective advocacy. Some of the specific topics requested include:
The civil commitment process including use of hold orders, pre-petition screening, hearings and types of discharge.
Concept of least restrictive alternative.
Information about neuroleptic medications including consent and administration.
Role in protecting the patient's interest.
The CCTRC also provides up-to-date information on proposed or new changes to the law.
