Data Practices

The Government Data Practices Act (Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 13) states that all government data are public unless a state or federal law says the data are not public.Government data is a term that means all recorded information the Department of Corrections (DOC) has, whether it is recorded on paper or in electronic form.

The Government Data Practices Act requires that the DOC keep all government data in a way that makes it easy for the public, to access public data; however, it does not require the department to create or collect new data in response to a data request, or to provide data in a specific form or arrangement if the DOC does not keep the data in that form or arrangement.

See the documents below for more information and for helpful forms.
