MCF-Faribault consists of a medium-security facility and a minimum-security unit located outside the secure perimeter. With a combined population capacity of 2,000 adult males, MCF-Faribault is the largest facility in the DOC system.
Internship Description
Interns will gain a general understanding of correctional facility operations, with a focus on security and the unique needs of incarcerated individuals. They'll have the chance to promote positive change by directing Orientation and Reentry programming, connecting community services, case management, release planners, incarcerated individuals, and other stakeholders. Opportunities may include evaluating and implementing innovative approaches for successful community transitions, covering areas like housing, employment, education, identification, community supports, and health insurance. Interns can develop skills through team mentoring, consultation, and peer learning.
Supervision
Interns will be supervised by the Corrections Transition Program Coordinator.
Requirements
Interns should be upper-level undergraduate students (generally seniors) or upper-level undergraduate students in corrections, social work, community psychology or a related field at an accredited college or university which offers course credit for internships. All interns must clear a security check.
Length of Internship
Negotiable and flexible schedule, minimum 400 hours required.
Application deadline date:
- February 15 for Summer session
- July 1 for Fall session
- October 15 for Winter/Spring session
Applications received by priority deadlines will be given first consideration. All other application will be considered based on position availability.
