The Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) Office of Special Investigations (OSI), the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and Lino Lakes Police are investigating a suspected homicide at Minnesota Correctional Facility (MCF)- Lino Lakes.
DOC spokesperson Andy Skoogman said a 63-year-old man, who was serving a 19.5 year sentence at MCF-Lino Lakes, was found unresponsive in his cell around 10:30 am today. DOC medical staff and outside emergency medical personnel attempted lifesaving efforts. The man was pronounced dead shortly after 11:30 am today.
Skoogman said a 42-year-old man, who is serving a life sentence at MCF-Lino Lakes, is the lone suspect in the suspected homicide. He is currently in administrative segregation at MCF-Lino Lakes.
The Midwest Medical Examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy to determine manner and cause of death. The identity of the victim will be released after full notification of next of kin.
MCF-Lino Lakes has been placed on modified lockdown status to allow for the investigation to be completed. Modified lockdown means the incarcerated population is restricted to their living units.
