Change agents, difference makers, transformers. Those are just some of the ways to describe the incredibly important work done by those who supervise justice-system involved people in the community. Supervision professionals throughout the United States are being honored this week – (July 16 – 22) during Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week (PPPS Week) by the American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) and by corrections systems across Minnesota.
“Supervision professionals are truly change agents, helping to mentor and guide people in achieving positive transformation,” Department of Corrections Commissioner Paul Schnell said. “These individuals are vital to public safety and building stronger communities.”
Supervision agents help individuals connect with job opportunities, training programs, housing resources, financial services, counseling, treatment, and other health care programs—along with ensuring accountability while on supervision.
According to the APPA, there are more than 100,000 community corrections professionals across the United States who supervise nearly 6.4 million individuals. Here in Minnesota, approximately 97,000 people are on supervised release, probation, or parole.
