1998 Governor's Commendation
Four projects that use geographic information technology to benefit Minnesota received Minnesota Governor's Commendation awards for GIS at the GIS/LIS Conference in St. Cloud, Minnesota, October 9, 1998:- The Carlton County Soil and Water Conservation District , for its regional outreach program and assistance to Minnesota organizations that use geographic information systems.
- MetroGIS, for developing the Street Centerline Data project, which provides high-quality street and address data free to government and academic users. This project was made possible through a funding partnership between the Metropolitan Council and the Minnesota Department of Transportation .
- The Land Management Information Center at Minnesota Planning (now MnGeo), the Legislative Commission on Minnesota Resources and the U.S. Geological Survey, for the Base Maps for the 1990s project, which produced high-resolution digital images and other valuable data for the entire state.
- The Washington County Surveyor's Office , for the Quick Access project, which gives smaller government units and other county offices opportunities to use the county's geographic information resources.
