Minnesota faces a care crisis marked by a healthcare worker shortage, burnout, and increasing vacancies, according to a Minnesota Department of Health report. Nearly one in five rural healthcare providers plan to leave the profession within five years, with one-third of rural physicians expressing intent to exit. Burnout is a significant factor in workforce exits across various professions, including nursing, physician assistants, and respiratory therapy.

The report highlights increased vacancies in mental health and substance abuse counseling, where one in four jobs is currently vacant. Proposed solutions include loan forgiveness, career exploration initiatives, and family-friendly work environments.
