With An Eye to the Future
On February 1, 2001, the Minnesota Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities (GCDD) hosted a luncheon to celebrate the milestone of the last resident with developmental disabilities leaving the Regional Treatment Center system.
"With an Eye to the Past" summarized 50 years of history and was first presented in 2001. This presentation was converted to a website feature that expanded to include historical documents, video interviews, and slide shows.
In 2017 the Minnesota Legislature appropriated Legacy funding to the GCDD to add 750 documents and 20 video interviews about the future of disability rights. This generous funding of $55,000 enabled creation of a new feature, entitled "With an Eye to the Future."
"With an Eye to the Future" begins at the year 2000 and documents key moments in GCDD's history chronologically. Over 750 documents and 20 videos fulfill the promises made to the Legislature.
