In Minnesota, Medicaid is called Medical Assistance. If you see news reports about Medicaid, they are referring to Medical Assistance.
Here are some facts about Medicaid in Minnesota:
- Medicaid programs provide health insurance to 1 in 4 Minnesotans.
- Medicaid helps Minnesota families: Around two-thirds of people who have Medical Assistance are parents, children and pregnant people.
- Medicaid funds are mostly spent on services and support for people with disabilities or who are 65 or older. It covers half of long-term care costs for Minnesotans.
- Medicaid pays for more of Minnesota’s mental health services than any other insurance provider.
- Medicaid covers people in Greater Minnesota and the metro area.
- Medicaid covers about 41% of our kids and 3 out of 10 births.
