Murphy v. Harpstead hearing to outline proposed Life Choices settlement
May 2023

The federal class action lawsuit involving Minnesotans with disabilities living in corporate adult foster care or group homes is returning to U.S. District Court in St. Paul on May 12 for a fairness hearing. Disability rights activists will hold the "Integration Now" rally to protest the inadequate proposed settlement.
The lawsuit, Murphy v. Harpstead, has been ongoing for over six years and focuses on the alleged discriminatory residential service system maintained by the Minnesota Department of Human Services. Plaintiffs argue that corporate adult foster care, and group homes cause isolation and segregation, seeking access to more integrated housing options and individualized housing services available under disability waivers.
