Disability advocacy groups in Minnesota held virtual rallies, Disability Day at the Capitol, and Mental Health Day on the Hill, emphasizing the importance of utilizing the state budget surplus and including projects in the 2022 bonding bill. Mental Health Day on the Hill, attended by over 500 people, focused on building the state's mental health system. Community leaders and lawmakers acknowledged challenges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on mental health, but the state's severe workforce shortage is affecting mental health care for all ages and conditions.
Advocates called for short-term and long-term measures to address staffing shortages, build a diverse workforce, and enhance rural staffing. Issues related to in-patient capacity, systems, crisis services, suicide prevention, and the implementation of 9-8-8 were discussed.

Disability Day at the Capitol centered on legislative updates and addressed accessibility issues across various programs and services. Criticism was directed at the Individualized Education Program (IEP) and efforts were made to enhance accessibility in sensory, cognitive, and physical aspects across state, county, and school district services. Making playgrounds safer and more accessible for children with disabilities, including autism, was a key focus.
